Cowpower Explained
Cowpower is your local non-profit green electricity supplier. By choosing renewable electricity from local BC Farms you can reduce your business, home or event's environmental impact, enhance your reputation as an environmental leader, advance new local renewable electricity production and support sustainable local farming.
How Cowpower works
When you commit to paying a little extra each month for Cowpower’s renewable electricity, you help make manure-to-electricity systems (see Cowpower Process to learn how this technology works) economically viable for local BC Farms. Manure-to-electricity systems convert manure and food waste into renewable electricity that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and offensive odours, diverts food waste from landfills, increases water and food safety, enhances environmental protection and strengthens local farming.
Once local BC Farms convert manure and food waste into renewable electricity, this electricity is injected onto BC’s energy grid to match all, or a percentage, of the electricity your business, home or event uses. Because your commitment to paying a little extra each month for Cowpower’s renewable electricity enables local Farms to build manure-to-electricity systems, you can claim ownership of the benefits of Cowpower’s renewable electricity. See below to learn more about the benefits of Cowpower's renewable electricity.
Furthermore, once Cowpower’s renewable electricity is injected onto BC’s energy grid to match all, or a percentage, of the electricity your business, home or event uses, you can tell everyone that your business, home or event is powered with renewable electricity made from manure and food waste by local BC farms. No other renewable energy supplier in Canada enables you to say this!
How to become Cowpowered
You can purchase Cowpower’s renewable electricity for any type or size of business, home or event space (leased, owned or otherwise). You don’t need any special wiring or equipment, you don’t need to ask permission from your building managers, BC Hydro, or anyone else to do so.
To become Cowpowered all you need to know is the amount of electricity your business, home or event uses. If this information isn't available, Cowpower can accurately estimate your electricity use for you based on the type and square footage of your business, home or event. Once your electricity use is known, all you need do is commit to paying an additional 4¢/kWh so Cowpower Farms can inject renewable electricity onto the grid to match all, or a percentage, of the electricity you use.
